49-DAY DEDICATIONS

中文講解

According to Buddhist teachings, when someone passes away, they enter an “intermediate state” (Tibetan: bardo) that is a limbo-state between the life they just left and yet to be reborn in their next life. During this period, they are “neither here, nor there” and can be very confusing and unsettling. Also, due to the habitual imprints from the life they just left, they are still attached to the experience of eating and drinking although they can no longer eat and drink as before. They can however satisfy their habit of needing to eat and drink by “ingesting through smell” and so the Buddha taught the practice of giving sustenance through the offering of aroma from ritually burning food and sweet-smelling incense.

Our spiritual guide, Dr. Lye (a vajra-master in the Drikung Kagyu Lineage) has encouraged practitioners to practice sur-offering as a regular practice of generosity and compassion and thus encouraged us to provide this platform to facilitate people requesting sur-offerings be done for recently deceased family, friends and pets as well as to make it easier for regular sur-offerings practitioners to dedicate their offerings to specific persons.

Dr. Lye himself will also specially dedicate his nightly sur-offering practice to those individuals enshrined on this page for 49 days.

To request for someone to be a recipient of the 49-Day Dedication, please email the following to info@drikungdharmakirti.com: Name, location, date of passing, and a photo (if available). There is no cost to request for someone to be put on this dedication wall. This is open to anyone regardless of whether one self-identifies as Buddhist or not.

We also encourage you to return to this Dedication Wall from time to time to make dedications to all the individuals here.
