Drikung Dharmakirti International Sangha (DDIS) is organizing a retreat in Costa Rica based on the book: The Great Drikung Teachings to the Assembly. In these teachings, Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon, the founder of the Drikung Kagyu tradition, covers the central themes of Dharma practice. He explains refuge, developing an altruistic mind, the different forms of dependent origination, how samsara and nirvana arise from the mind, why hearers, solitary realizers, and buddhas attain different awakenings, and how to correctly rely on the guru, among many other topics. This text is an authentic resource for becoming acquainted with the Buddha’s teachings in general and the teachings of the early Kagyu masters in particular.

This retreat program lead by Dr. Lye will happen towards the end of February 2022 in Costa Rica for approximately 7 days. It will be anchored on two main elements:

(1) Teachings based on The Great Drikung Teachings to the Assembly.
(2) Group & individual meditation with breath as the object (using the Shravasti Meditation approach).

Unlike Dr. Lye’s usual Tibetan Spirit Travels programs, this program will not include or involve any sightseeing or cultural programs. You can extend your stay in Costa Rica and the retreat center we will use can help make arrangements for your post-retreat plans in Costa Rica.

The current estimated cost for the 6-night stay at the retreat center is:
Single – $1123 – Capacity full
Double – $882 per person
Triple – $769 per person
Quadruple – $712 per person
This cost includes lodging and 3 meals a day and use of retreat facilities.

Roundtrip flight prices vary from US$150-$600 (Guatemala & Mexico on the lower end, USA on the higher end).

The final area of expense to factor in is individual miscellaneous expenses (transportation from the airport to the ranch, tips for services, extra amenities, shopping etc.) and an appropriate katak-offering for the teacher.
