DRIKUNG DHARMAKIRTI TRANSLATION TEAM

In February 2020, inspired by the encouragement of the Most Venerable Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche, Dr. Lye initiated a modest project to translate a selected number of teachings from Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon’s Collected Works (bka bum). Khenchen Rinpoche identified ten short teachings from the collection to be translated. Soon after, a translation team was formed for this task. This project is aimed at making the teachings of Kyobpa Rinpoche more widely available. Although we now have a significant number of important Drikung Kagyu source-texts translated into different languages, very few of these texts are the actual words of the founder of the lineage. We believe that the more we are able to access the teachings of Kyobpa Rinpoche, the more we will understand and be guided by the essence-teachings of the early Kagyu lineage-masters. The early Kagyu masters were first and foremost realized beings who taught and guided their disciples into becoming realized beings as well. And their precious words are how we can encounter their wisdom especially if we can not only read their words but also receive instructions on these words from living lineage-masters. We hope that with the translation of more of Kyobpa Rinpoche’s teachings into English, more English-speaking Drikung disciples will be inspired to request oral-instructions on these precious teachings from their respective teachers.

              Kyobpa Rinpoche’s profound instructions are often not so easily understood. Hence, they have not been so widely disseminated. We are making these translations available with the hope that all those with the right karmic connections and merit will request teachings on these translations from qualified teachers. There is no substitute for a person-to-person transmission of Kyobpa Rinpoche’s profound wisdom.
